ZIMBABWE W REGISTER HISTORIC WIN OVER WEST INDIES W IN 2ND ODI

Zimbabwe women created history on Sunday at the Harare Cricket Club after beating West Indies women for the first time in international cricket, stunning the Caribbean side in the second one day international (ODI) by 4 wickets.

The win was spearheaded by Nyasha Gwanzura's sensational bowling spell of 4-for-33 in her 10 overs, including the prized wicket of captain Hayley Matthews. Michelle Mavunga claimed 3-for-36 as West Indies faltered to 139 all out in 39.3 overs.

Stafanie Taylor top scored with 47 for the visitors, Hayley Matthews chipped in with 26.

In reply, Zimbabwe openers Modester Mupachikwa 38 and Kelis Ndhlovu 30 set a solid foundation for the chase putting on 68 runs for the first wicket.

They stuttered slightly, losing their next two wickets for three runs. However, captain Josephine Nkomo with an even 30 as the host reached the target of 140 for 6 in 40.5 overs to level the three match series 1-1.

This is only their second win over a full member team, having previously beaten Ireland Women.

Ashmini Munisar 2/15, Aaliyah Alleyne 2/27 and Afy Fletcher 2/37 the wicket takers for the Caribbean side.

The third and deciding ODI will be played on Wednesday, September 30 at Harare Sports Club.
