MICHAEL-ANDRE LANDS WU20 TRIPLE JUMP TITLE

Michael-Andre Edwards served up a fierce last jump for triple jump gold and moved to third all-time on Jamaica's junior list.

Jamaica secures its first gold medal of the World Athletics Under 20 championship. This after Michael-Andre Edwards leaped to a sensational personal best and World Under 20 lead of 17-point-08 meters on his sixth and final jump to win triple jump gold medal.

He is only the second Jamaican to win the WU20 triple jump title joining Jaydon Hibbert who won in Cali Colombia back in 2022 with 17-point-27 meters. Edwards is now ranked number three all time on Jamaica's junior list behind Hibbert 19-point-87 and James Beckford 17-point-29 meter.

Edwards was locked in an intense battle with America's Miles Nesmith trading the lead over their last two attempts. Nesmith served up Avery good series of jumps but his 5th round personal best leap of 16-point-79 meters earned him the silver medal.
Italy's Francesco Crotti second round personal best effort of 16-point-24 was good enough to earn him the bronze medal.

Jamaica is now 5th on the medal table with 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals.
