West Indies women’s skipper Hayley Matthews picked up the July ICC player of the month award for the 5th time in her career. Mathews spearheaded a dominant 3-0 ODI series win for Windies women over Ireland. ICC player of the month award dominated with both bat and ball in the three-match ODI series against Ireland.
The Barbadian totaled 265 runs including a career high 159 not out and even century along with 7 wickets that earned her player of the series and now the ICC player of the month for July. She won ahead of England's captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sri Lanka's Harshitha Samarawickramain.
The all-rounder expressed her delight at winning the award, “I am thrilled to win the ICC Player of the Month award once again. It is just as special as the previous ones, and I hope it inspires me to keep raising my standards, contributing to the West Indies, and winning more such awards in the future,"
Matthews expressed satisfaction with upward trajectory of the game “It is an exciting time for women’s cricket, with more attention and interest than ever before. I am proud to contribute to its growth through my performances and thank the ICC for its continued support of the women’s game.”
