GREAVES, MATTHEWS NOMINATED FOR ICC PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Justin Greaves was rewarded for his brilliant all-round performance in West Indies home Tests against Sri Lanka and Pakistan that helped the West Indies record victories over both.

The West Indies had a very busy summer calendar, and Greaves showed up consistently for the men in maroon with both bat and ball across Tests and ODIs. He picked up 3-for-39 in the first test match to help West Indies beat Sri Lanka in Antigua. Greaves then scored a masterful 180 runs in the drawn second test match which earned him player of the match and the player of the series awards.

This momentum carried over into the Pakistan series in Trinidad and Tobago later that month picking up his maiden five wicket haul in the first test. He took 5-for-27 in the first innings followed by 2-for-12 for match figures of 7-for-39 earning him another player of the match award. Greaves ended the series with 111 runs and 7 wickets to share the player of the series award with Babar Azam.

July ended with the Barbadian scoring 215 runs at an average of 71.66 in two Test matches and taking eight wickets averaging 10.25.

England captain Harry Brook, and Bangladesh opening batter Tanzid Hasan completes the short for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for July.

Hayley Matthews

The West Indies’ skipper dominated with both bat and ball in the three-match ODI series against Ireland. Matthews smashed a career high 159 not out in a record opening stand of 258 with Realeanna Grimmond in the first match of the series. She also picked up 3-for-52 in the opening encounter at the Bready Cricket Ground. The Barbadian followed up her first match record breaking performance with an even century and two wickets in the second match. Matthews earned player of the series honors scoring 265 runs while picking up 7 wickets as West Indies swept the Irish 3-0.

England’s captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sri Lanka’s batter Harshitha Samarawickrama completes the shortlist for the women’s award.
