FALCONS SOARS TO THE TOP OF CPL STANDINGS

The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons handed the Barbados Tridents their first defeat Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after a complete turnaround in both innings to register a 30-run win. In what was a low scoring affair, Moeen Ali's unbeaten half-century of 56 from 37 balls proved to be the difference. The Falcons were in trouble from the very first delivery losing Rahkeem Cornwall for a duck and ended the power play on 40-for-2.

Amir Jangoo and Karima Gore both made starts before Gore was dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman for 27 and Jangoo bowled by Motie for 26. There were no substantial partnerships before Ali the Falcons captain took over, giving his team a momentum shift. Ali alongside Shamer Springer put on a 75-run partnership to push his team to 155-for-5 a defendable total.

In reply the Tridents were very much in control before a devasting middle order collapse from 93 for 3 saw them lose four wickets in two overs, before eventually being bowled out for 125, losing their final seven wickets for just 32 runs.

Joshua James was the chief destroyer with an impressive 3 for 18, Shadab Khan, Alzarri Joseph and Sufyan Moqim all picked up 2 wickets each

The Falcons now return to the road to face the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park on Sunday. The Tridents will play their fourth match of their campaign on Friday against defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders at the Queen’s Park Oval.
